This report is the first to examine pre- and post-acceptability measures on the full range of treatment procedures with caregivers experiencing treatment.

We aimed to address gaps in this area including asking parents before treatment (rather than just at discharge) and about the full range of treatment components separately (rather than just intrusive ones or the programme as a whole).

Parents preferred components considered ‘intrusive’, because they work faster with less long drawn out problem behaviour, and want treatment that actually works, not just reduces inappropriate mealtime behaviour.

Asking before treatment in a structured way is vital! We use this especially in balancing how fast to go, giving parents more support if they’re nervous and figuring out specifically what their concerns are, not on our own guesses or biases, because concerns could be very different between parents, for example cursing, vomiting, or weight loss.

Results were consistent with those from controlled settings in feeding and in general, even direct from recipients.

These could be used by both practitioners and researchers, and adapted for any area of ABA, not just feeding. Lots of clinical utility and future directions for further research.
